"Enyimba enii "

Enyimba is a traditional chant (dating as far back as the 9th Century) sung by warriors and hunters from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria when it’s time for war.

For their new single, Yankari put a twist on this and tell a tale of an immigrant leaving his homeland for a better life in a “white man’s” country. What ensues is a journey of realisation: the grass is not always greener on the other side, and he faces obstacles in the form of his new hosts and the struggle to make a life.

The band felt a chorus of voices was necessary for Enyimba and reached out to an inner city youth project in Dublin, spending a day recording there. These young voices provide an emotional anchor to the piece and in doing so create a one time only event: Dublin youths singing an Igbo chant, thousands of years old, in 2017.
